Young Scholars of Bartlesville, a Bartlesville-based non-profit organization that assists students in becoming self-supporting adults and contributors to their communities through mentoring and empowering them to earn a college degree, announces the appointment of Dionna Cameron as its new Executive Director.
The program matches academically promising students with mentors and requires students to maintain academic excellence and participate in volunteer events and skills-building classes. Students who complete the program and successfully apply to an Oklahoma University recieve a scholarship worth as much as $4,000 a year (for up to four years). These students, with their hard work and dedication, are a source of pride and inspiration for the entire community.
Cameron's journey, from graduating from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in aviation sciences to completing the TEACH Certification program from OKWU, is a testament to her dedication. Her experience working with students from the Beta Program at Copan High School, coupled with her business and leadership experience from the Aviation and Retail industry, is a promising sign for the growth and development of Young Scholars. Her first project with Young Scholars is to help our students find mentors from our community!
Approximately 40 high school and college students are currently in the Young Scholars of Bartlesville program today. Six of those students are currently without a mentor to help guide them on this exciting mission. Mentors are matched through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma-Bartlesville and meet with their students to do fun and academic activities.
