Who is eligible to apply?

Students from Bartlesville Public Schools, currently in 6th-10th Grade.

Acceptance is based on:

Parent’s income, student GPA, time in Bartlesville Public School District, and teacher recommendations.

Where can the scholarship be used?

Endowed scholarships can be used at one of the three partner universities: Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and Rogers State University. Non-endowed scholarships can be used at any Oklahoma University.In order to receive scholarship student must Plan on attending and be accepted into an Oklahoma University

Required Criteria

Attendance

Student must have attended Bartlesville Public Schools (BPS) for a minimum of 2 years. Must have an attendance rate of 96%.

Geographical Requirements

Student must remain in the BPS System; transferring out of the BPS System immediately disqualifies student from the Young Scholars of Bartlesville Program.

Financial Criteria

Financial criteria is based on a sliding scale-using number of family members in contrast to income. The chart is available upon request. Parents are required to submit their most recent federal income tax form showing number of dependents and total income with this form.

Employment Criteria

Parents/guardians must work a minimum of 20 hours per week for at least one parent or provide proof of disability.

Requirements Upon Acceptance

Academic Information

The student must sign FERPA Release granting program representative and mentor permission to check student’s grades while in the program, and provide their PowerSchool Username and Password. The student must maintain a GPA of 3.00 or better while in the program. Once in college, students will be required to provide the program periodic grade reports and up to date FERPA.

Oklahoma’s Promise

Apply for Oklahoma’s Promise when in the 8th-11th grade if eligible, and provide copy of acceptance letter or acceptance email.

Class Attendance for Students

7th & 8th grade students attend Steps 4 Success. 9th or 10th grade students attend W.E. Pro$per offered by the Westside Community Center. 11th & 12th grade students attend Finance for Your Future offered by Truity Credit Union.

Mentor for Student and Parent(s)

Student will be matched with a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters as soon as possible. Student must meet with the mentor for several hours per month to do fun and academic activities.

Meetings

Student and parent(s) will attend Young Scholars of Bartlesville Quarterly Meetings where career exploration and other academic topics will be discussed.

Volunteer

Student and parent(s) must volunteer 4 times/year for a minimum of 2 hours. Activities are chosen from both Young Scholars Sponsored activities and local organization events.

Media Release

Student and parent(s) give permission for their name and images to be used in any form of media to promote the Young Scholars of Bartlesville
